Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 6 ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and halved (for rubbing)

Method

Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic, extra-virgin olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Stir gently to mix all the ingredients together. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  2. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Alternatively, you can toast the bread slices in a toaster or on a grill.
  3. Once the bread slices are toasted, remove them from the oven and immediately rub the cut side of the garlic cloves over the surface of each slice. This step infuses the bread with a subtle garlic flavor that complements the tomato mixture perfectly.
  4. Spoon the tomato mixture generously onto each garlic-rubbed bread slice. Make sure to include some of the juices from the bowl for extra flavor. Arrange the bruschetta on a serving platter and garnish with additional fresh basil leaves if desired.
  5. Serve the bruschetta immediately while the bread is still crispy. This dish is best enjoyed fresh, so try to assemble it just before serving.

Notes

Choose ripe tomatoes for the best flavor. Let the tomato mixture rest for a few minutes before serving to allow flavors to develop. Toast the bread until crispy to prevent sogginess. Customize with additional toppings like diced red onion, olives, or grated Parmesan cheese.
